uh oh, capezios...

you all know maison21 lurves the 80's- c'mon, we named our blog after an 80's song after all...

but some things that died in the 80's, should NEVER be revived. case in point, we were horrified to find this picture of jazz shoes in the urban outfitter's catalog in our mailbox. first white wayfarers (hated them then), now capezios. please no. this madness must stop!we realize we are a little outside the urban outfitters demographic, but kids (like any read this blog), listen to your grampa m21:

just say no to capezios...

ps- you know you are really old if you remember "crayons", the version of a jazz shoe with candy-colored clear plastic soles. had them in several colors in junior high. they were totally hot with my calvins.

Huh. Seeing that photo of the Capezios just brought back lyrics to every early Duran Duran tune I ever heard.

kate (pm)- i am dancing to "girls on film" right now- jazz shoes tapping and jazz hands flailing!

ok, so i lied about the dancing, flailing and tapping, but i do think i'll put a little duran duran on the itunes right now...

My guess, as someone who knows young guys who wear such things:

They could be coming back in part because dances that require them are going through a revival. Ever gone swing dancing in sneakers? It's hell. So through the necessity of leather-soled jazz shoes for dancing, rubber-soled jazz shoes for everyday are looking cooler.

Plus, I think wingtips look pretty darn snazzy.

seraph- it never occurred to me that they might have a practical purpose. i still don't care for them, but i imagine if i were 19, i'd feel rather different. ;-)
