"i hereby swear never to buy a set or suite of ANYTHING larger than plates."
while m21 knows his readers are savvy enough to know that good things (furniture-wise) never come in "suites", if he can help just one poor soul who stumbles upon his blog in search of a 4 pc. leather living room set from making a costly and way too matchy-matchy mistake, than this post will have been worthwhile (obviously, pretty pairs of sofas or chairs are excepted from this rule. pairs are never a mistake, and yes, maison21 supposes a suite of matching dining chairs is a good thing too).
please, please, puhleeze mix it up people! lest you drown in a sea of dark brown, as in these photos that ended up in our junk mail box today. ugh.

Oh, so true!!!!!
Oh honey! Tell the Costco trolls to remove you from their evil mailing list of hideousness. You may need a glass of champagne to wash the ugly out of your system! (Have you seen today's NYTimes Home section? There's an article on recliners with a couple of cute ones but they are mostly god-awful. The NYTimes must be desperate.)
Your are my Poster Child of "Do Nots". Sadly, you must realize, by the end of July, these Costco Suites will be all sold...........and my stock will be saying, "Up, up, up Dow Jones-!"
Thanks! Seems I'm always trying to convince a friend/relative/my parents to stop buying matching sets of furniture! Mix it up!
My eyes!
You speak the truth! It especially irks me when you see a bedroom w/ the matching bed, nightstands, armoire, bureau, etc. Rooms to Go!
I'm hoping that I can still buy sets of towels . . . lol.
What about the sort of groovy Danish Modern-esque (actually made in America but from 1960) bedroom set I just inherited from my mother in law? Is it a mistake? HELP!
