there oughtta be a law...

maybe there ought to be historical preservation laws for furniture as well as buildings. m21 felt like crying when saw this on craigslist recently:

can you see what it is underneath that grotesque paint job? and if the shabby but not chic faux finisher responsible for this hot mess threw the original hardware away, they deserve jail time.

mrs. draper is rolling in her grave over this one, i'm sure

Makes me almost throw up a little in my mouth...well, makes me nauseous anyway. :(
You could make it a labor of love and restore it to it's former glory.

Ah - I gasped when I saw this picture on Architect Design's blogroll. Let's hope it wasn't an original...please?

That is just so wrong! Did you happen to rescue it, or just say a prayer?

HGTV is to blame!

I think in Saudi they would have their hands chopped off for such an offense. And, quite possibly an eye poked out too. But I could be wrong.

Oh NO-O-O. Where's the petition?! I'm signing it! With so many of us out there trying to save the last pennies in order to indulge, this design crime looks like an evil joke. My heart is bleeding.

I had the same reaction as Halcyon. What (the &*%#) was this creative (?) person thinking or what planet was he/she from? A chacun son gout. Have a wonderful Sunday with the beasties. Mary

If you ever watch reruns of 'Bachelor Father' there is a Dorothy Draper chest in the foyer (I thought at one time there were matching chests on both sides of the front door). I couldn't find a picture link, or info on who did the interiors. The show decor was great; I zone out on the conversation and drool over the rooms.

And yes, the Dorothy Draper Craigs chest is sad, for any furniture genre.

That's one of the most knocked-off furniture designs around. No need for everyone to get their panties in a twist; who knows if it is an authorized Dorothy Draper for Espana piece?

In any case, Draper was not always known for great color judgment herself.
