veni, vedi, vamoosi

last night was the long anticipated (for moi, at least) west coast launch party for domino: the book of decorating, held on the grounds of kelly wearstler's glamorous estate. no peeking inside the house (quel bummer), but the lovely pool area, bordered by tall hedges and a chic 1930's beverly hills regency poolhouse was treat to see. m21's pictures are not a treat to see- just too darn dark. sorry, you'll just have to take our word for it!
the crowd was fashionable, of course, led by our hostess, ms. wearstler in a short, short skirt and long, long legs. she is absolutely stunning in person, and her handsome husband was herding one of their adorable little boys around at one point. some people really do seem to have it all... (total gossipy side note- speaking of someone who seems to have it all: gwen stefani is much prettier (and taller) in person than maison21 expected. gorgeous).
but alas, the evening was about 90 degrees and humid- a rarity for l.a.- and that made m21 uber-cranky, uber-quickly (ok, the *!#@! back didn't help). so after a brief twirl to soak it all in, maison21 and his glamorous date, the bachelorette, made a hasty exit- heading down the hill to the delightfully dark and air-conditioned environs of dan tana's (old school hollywood rat-pack italian, at it's best). and yes, m21 admits he is an old & jaded angeleno, perfectly willing to trade the "photo-op" atmosphere of a crowded and glamorous party for an icy martini and a veal chop in a dark restaurant, catching up with a good friend.

last, sadly, there were lots of copies of "domino: the book of decorating" scattered around the party when we arrived, but none left on our exit, so we're just going to have to order our copy on amazon in order to check it out, right along with everybody else! you snooze, you lose!

Honey... welcome to my world in summer. We call it 90/90 weather. 90 degrees and 90% humidity. It wreaks havoc on the hair. And there are periods of time that you actually have to leave the a/c.

anon- i agree: HATE HUMIDITY! and we saw several other people from the party arrive once we we're seated, so a lot of people felt the same.

meg- i am a complete and total weather whiner, and freely admit it. growing up in southern california, i'm just not used to it.

humid? i'm cranky. raining? why would i ever leave the house in such dangerous conditions? cold? a celebration- pull out a sweater! freezing cold? again, why would i leave the house? scary. windy? again, dangerous- best to stay home. snow? means i'm on vacation, so we like that one...

M21 - something else we have in common - a love of the great - and controlled - indoors. The party sounds like great fun - you were wize to take it in and scram before it became a bore.

mrs b, the outdoors are HIGHLY overrated ;-)

courtney- as i said, i didn't stay long, but i would have been devastated if i had missed it- which i almost did! for some reason, i thought THURSDAY was the 1st of october. if my date hadn't emailed to verify the time, i would have stood her up, and missed the whole thing... d'oh!

Great post title! Thanks for filling us in on the evening. Too bad no house tour of Chez Wearstler! How was she dressed?

And yes, the out-of-doors is seriously overrated! From the humidity to tiny heels sinking into the muck... yuck

linda, you can check out ms. wearstler's outfit at wireimage:

after viewing the photos there, i had a lot of "aha" moments, as i didn't really know who in the heck half the actresses there were, but remember thinking "oh, she's really pretty".

Gwen Stefani was at a Domino party?? Wow...
Sounds like an interesting evening nonetheless...and sadly it sounds like you won't be interested in visiting me in HK any time soon if you're not a fan of humidity! And for Pigtown - the periods of leaving the AC last about 6 months of the year here... :(

Well, aren't you connected!! I think I would have been tempted to sneak inside to get a look at the house. BTW, love your new picture!

I am so jealous!I really love a good veal chop.

Kidding...not about loving the veal (which I do), but really jealous about the party. It would have been so fun to see the Wearstler in person. Not to mention the other celebs. But you are right, unless there is a comfy spot to perch and take it all in....best to find one elsewhere.
