not so bad...

while killing time waiting to meet a friend at the grove here in los angeles, m21 tried to resist the pull of the ipad calling out his name from the apple store, and instead popped into crate & barrel for a minute where he spotted this pretty 'pirouette' chair. not so bad for crate & barrel, we thought.

and let's be perfectly clear- m21 prefers his upholstery either custom, newly made to order; or vintage, and recovered to our needs- neither option is much more expensive in price then retail, and recovering a vintage piece is usually significantly cheaper then all but the most down market of retail. we also understand this isn't an option for everyone- if you aren't working with a decorator like moi, having a custom chair newly manufactured is a daunting prospect and frankly something we don't recommended a first timer attempting- there are simply too many variables, and if you don't spell things out very specifically for your workroom, or have the right answers to their questions, it can be a VERY expensive learning curve. so that's why when we see something like this chair, especially when offered in a perfectly cute stock fabric, we just want to share.

what do y'all think? cute? too pricy for c &b? ($1199- not so far off from a custom frame price btw, but it's in stock and ships fast).

You're right - it's a lovely chair with a lot of style and I love the fabric. But... kind of expensive for C&B?? It would be more fun to shop for something vintage and recover to taste. You have such a good eye though.

Very cute - it says spring! A little over priced but it's probably made by Lee Industries which makes a lot of the C&B furniture - so exceptional quality.

I think it's pretty, but wow on that price tag. For that I would totally pick something vintage and have it re-covered. :)

A much more stylish choice than their usual clunky fare.

The chair is a Lee Industries chair and I was looking at it for a client, but would have had it upholstered COM - which of course made it a lot more expensive! But I like and it's comfortable.

cindie- thanks! a little pricy for c & b, i agree. 300 dollars less, and it would be in a client's home as we speak.

vanessa- yes, it's le (as linda points out). very good qulaity, but still- it's c&b after all...

high heels- i'm looking for something vintage along the same lines- harder to find then you'd think.

plum- glad you like!

raina- couldn't agree more- some of the other chairs in the shop were sooooo awful. - very target/kmart designs but for substantially more $$. when c & b hits it, they do really well, but when they don't? oy.

linda- it was very comfortable- i'm looking for a chair that can be both stylish and comfortable enough to watch television in. not easy.

I am with you on this one. I'm not a huge lover of yellow or of C&B but I do love when I spot something that is in stock and well made and not over the top expensive. Though this does tread dangerously close to over-the-top expensive for a stock piece. At least for me :)
