fabulously faux (and feline friendly, we pray)

maison21 had a set of dining chairs covered in shiny white faux alligator vinyl with a black cord trim for a client, and we thought they turned out so well, we had to pop off one of the seats to take back to the maison21 atelier and try it out on our own 1980's black lacquer queen anne dining chairs (cushion is a little too big for our chairs, but you get the idea).

kinda fabulous, no? and please agree- we've already bought more mock croc vinyl and dropped the seats off at the upholsterer.

m21 has actually been dithering about what to cover his dining chairs in for like, ever- we really would have liked a black horsehair with a black leather welt, but it's just too darn expensive for richard to destroy. then we had our hearts set on a natural woven raffia (with a black contrast welt), but decided the texture of raffia would be just too tempting (might as well sprinkle catnip on them, too). after seeing how luxe the chic vinyl we recommended as an inexpensive, low maintenance option for a client with kids and pets turned out, we realized that it was also the perfect option for the pet-centric household here at the m21 atelier.

can't wait!

Queen Anne dining chairs always remind me of "The Cosby Show."

why? why, I ask, did it take me s long to visit your blog?

regardless, love the faux 'gator texture. and I agree: raffia is way too tempting for a feline!

Love the chairs! I am so jealous. Who cares if they squeak...they are impervious to red wine and anything else that may fall on them, and they are simply FABULOUS! May I ask...who is your faux croc source?

p.s. - Cat's HATE anything faux!!!!

Do you think I could replicate these using my pleather pants and a glue gun?
I love them enough to try!

These chairs look gorgeous with the white textured alligator and the black piping! On their own the chair frames are making me drool but with the faux vinyl seats these are so classy. Well done, you are v. genius!

Those look fantastic and oh so cleanable! Faux ostrich is also a nifty choice.

Ultra chic. But watch out - my cats destroyed our lovely new KIDSKIN leather chairs...I think its the texture, they seem to get a bit of tension while sharpening their nails so they can scratch everything else! (I do love them still) Hope I haven't rained on your parade too much...at least they're faux...

thanks for the positive comments, everyone! (was the cosby show reference a positive or a negative? right era though, the chairs are definitely 80's!).

megan- i bought the mock croc locally at diamond foam and fabric, but if they have it, it will be online somewhere as well.

suzy- richard would have a field day with kidskin! costa and rica must have had a ball destroying that! this stuff was so inexpensive that if he wrecks it, oh well...

i'm NOT feeling that way about the lounge chairs in my bedroom which he has shredded- labor and 7 yards of fabric on each is not a small investment. maybe i'll cover them in chain mail...

tobi- PLEASE replicate with pleather pants and a glue gun- i'd LOVE to see the results! ;-)

hi felicity- welcome back! thanks for thinking i'm original- not long after i showed my client the faux alligator, the ny times ran photos of the kip's bay showhouse, and a designer sccoped me with some stools overed in the same vinyl!

and, btw, the chairs that i covered for my client are VERY simlar to mine- totally 80's black lacquer, but chippendale, not queen anne. we're putting 8 of them around an 8 foot white marble saarinen table, and i think it's going to be soooo pretty (table should arrive this week i hope- we ordered it in march!)

"Please agree" cracked my ass up.

A winner for sure, so you didn't even need to bully us for approval, dear. :)

she DOES read my blog!

and "please agree" was for mean anon- i just didn't want to hear it, ya know? i knew that all regular, decent, non-bitter, non-ax grinding people (including decorno and nice anons everywhere) would approve!
