pretty and classique (what's old is new again)

images scanned from a 1962 edition of "house and garden's book of decorating and entertianing" (no decorator credit given). take away the dated flower arrangements and you'd hardly know these rooms are 46 years old. pretty and classique.

have a great weekend!

I was born in 19......., oh dear I can't do it, but I still have an "eye' for pretty and classic. Ginny

Hmmmm, I will endeavor to get this post into the hands of some friends.... it is a look that is right for them and one that seems just out of their creative reach... Thanks for the classic m21 inspiration.

Right there with y'all!

I think that in a lot of these old books/magazines, if you take away the flowers and the window treatments, the rest of the look stands.

easy- i hope your friends get inspired. i've never met a vintage decor book that didn' inspire me somehow, even if the inspiration was only "good god,i'd never do that! thank goodness somethings DO go out of style!

couldn't agree more, meg- floral arrangements and window treatments are the dead-giveaways to figuring the age of a room...

glad you liked it, pve- i rsvp'd!

aren't those colorful sofas against all that white great, suzy? and i'm really loving the painted ceiling with the white beams- the exact opposite of what one so often sees.

ginny- thank you for caring! i was lost in the tropics for a few days- the tropics of palm springs, that is! good lord- i've had drier, less humid weather in during the summer in puerto vallarta than this past weekend out in the desert! did you get the crazy downpours out your way, too?

hey vamp- you are coorect, i did in fact mean 46 years young (as i'm one year shy of being that "young" myself!)

I think you should do a post just dedicated to what you would consider classic window treatments that don't look dated.

twin2trip-

a post on window treatments would certainly be a challenge, as my preferred window treatment is NONE. whenever possible and practical, i prefer to leave windows bare. when that won't do, i believe in tailored treatments- you can barely see them in the first photo, but i quite like the curtains- simple and bright, with a classic white tape trim. the only curtains in my own home are similar.
