cruising ebay the other day, your intrepid decorator spotted this
chandelier- he never realized there was a decorating sub-genre of "moscow mafioso":

but here's where your decorator has his problem- he actually kinda
likes it, and it makes him feel a little dirty on the inside. sure it's an overblown, grandiose monstrosity, only suitable for a bordello, or a trump casino, but m21's inner liberace is going
crazy for those glittery onion domes on top.
now don't worry, your decorator would never actually use anything like it in one of his projects (unless he
was in fact,
actually decorating for a madam or the donald
) but since the chandelier was just much too much muchness, he just had to share.
whaddya all think? worse then the complete hideousness of the
arielle the slutty mermaid table? or can you almost see thru the glitz, to the beauty of the bejeweled onion domes?

Moscos mafioso? Soooo true! More crystal, gold and ironwork than you've ever ever seen! Hideous stuff... All the money in the world and not a scintilla of decent taste.
meg, i wish someone would do a book on the homes of moscow millionaires- though i think i might be the only one that would want to buy it.
i'm always fascinated by decor with too much money and not enough taste- it's almost like outsider art- so weird it's almost surreal, but someone obviously put lots of thought and effort (and cash) into it...
M... if you like outsider art, baltimore's got just the place for you! the american visionary art museum. it's such an amazing place and it has the most interesting art.
It would work within the right architecture and room size.
Like it, and think it could really work in the right setting.
I like the shape of it. It's the scale that makes it tricky to place.
So much better than the mermaid table that they cannot be mentioned in the same breath/post. You've totally sparked an idea - what would be better than decorating a bordello?! A romp in every sense of the word.
I kinda like it too! But in the descrption it says "very large". How large is that? But I agree, in the right setting it might be just the thing!
Maison - I'm back! And I love it! I think its marvellous - bring on the glitz, glamour and twinkles of a overblown overmonied masterpiece.
I actually like it even better that Arielle - it would look fabulous in an Italian owned Brunswick St Ballroom in Melbourne too.
Or anywhere in Hong Kong for that matter :-)
