not even close... (domino magazine requiem #20,317)

we will now be officially receiving vanity fair in our mailbox until february, 2013. it's not even a good consolation prize, really- not even close. but m21 needs to look on the bright side- it could have been AD until 2015! (not that we expect that particular title to last that long either, with ad pages down 50%, according to the huffington post. the fact that the aging AD demographic is rapidly leaving this mortal coil doesn't help it's chances either- so curious as to why conde nast chose to invest in their past, not future with the decision to ax domino and spare AD. maybe they don't expect to be around long enough to turn a future profit. who knows).

sometimes life ain't fair. waahhhhhhh.

speaking of magazines, our new edition of traditional home arrived today, and was less then spectacular (what do we think of that zarin aprtment- hot mess or hot-ness?). sad too, 'cause TH was in the running to become one of our new favorites (m21 feels slightly queasy admitting to liking anything labeled "traditional" but until this issue, they had really kicked up their game a notch. hopefully, just a glitch as normally it's fab. y'all should subscribe if you don't already).

so house beautiful, it's all about YOU now. we need to make a sacrifice to the design gods to keep you published! maybe burn some "imperial trellis" remnants in a blanc de chine cache pot on the next full moon...

You're getting Vanity Fair? We were assigned "cookie"? What is that? Anyway- I hear you on the Traditional Home...try Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. It's my new fave. Current but not Met Home current. Kicky traditional. Too bad upstate NY is so far from any of the stores advertised.

I love the Real Housewives of NYC and Jill is my favorite. I was very disappointed in the remodel of her home! I think it looks very cluttered (Id be afraid to knock something over just walking through it). It looked better before.

Bettheny's reaction to it was priceless though!!

When two of my favorite mags closed recently, Cottage Living and Country Home, I called them both and asked for a refund of my subscription payment. They were both happy to oblige and checks came in the mail within a few weeks. Somehow though, I started receiving Family Circle (!) magazine as a consolation from one of the publishers and the mailing label says I'll continue to receive it until May 2011!! So I'm doing my best to appreciate it for recipes and affordable beauty advice, but it has to live in the privacy of my bath or bedroom. At least, with Vanity Fair, you can leave it lying around and your friends will think you're chic and current!

tread upon- you can call conde nast and get your subscription changed, i was originally assigned "glamour" since i'm a dude and all found 4 years of that unappealing, so called and got VF instead.

i've never seen atlanta homs on teh newsatnd, but then again, i wasn't looking for it. i wil now! thanks for the tip!

YSL guy- i doubt i would have been restrained as bethany- that mess was so fun house fussy, my mouth would have been goin' before my brain could stop it...

carol ann- two more titles to look for- yay! thank you!

tracy- i had NO idea that "family circle" even still existed! my mom used to subscribe when i was a kid. and yeah, i'd probably have to keep it under wraps, too... ;-)

I totally agree about Traditional Home. I thought last month's issue was fantastic, but this month's was a big snore. I love Jill Zarin. She and Bethenny are my favorite of all the Housewives, but her apt. is definitely a hot mess!

Yes, try Canadian House & Home like Carol Ann says... it's pretty great. Strangely, Country Living has given itself something of a Domino-esque makeover... but I don't see how anything could actually replace Domino (and I don't see YOU bringing Country Living into the atelier!)
BTW, haven't seen the new Traditional Home yet but DID see the Zarin's apartment on RHONYC and all I can say is 1) they're CRAZY for letting that Brad guy loose with their money and 2) if that's how the rich and influential decorate in NYC, I'll pass thank you. Let's hope they don't start an "add pattern to your kitchen cabinets" trend. Eek.

I'm getting Cookie too, and I have no idea what it is. Phoenix Home and Garden is amazing.

paloma- totes agree- bethany and jill are the only two that seem like they are sane. i particulrly like bethany's brand of "tell it like it is" bitchiness. i can relate.

but what was up with giving that hot mess of a house THE COVER of TH? i understand publishing it for the publicity, but the cover is a credibiltiy blow to TH. watch it be their best selling issue ever, though.

tracy- you are correct, country home is a line i just can't cross! there ain't a country home bone in this city boy's body. perversely though, i've always wanted to design a country home interior- purely for the challenge.

two votes for canadian h&h- i'm buying it!

jill- call conde nast ASAP! get that changed. wtf is cookie anyway- a baking magazine? i've NEVER heard of it.

I think Cookie is a kid's related magazine. LIke art projects and things to do with children.

I could be wrong. LOL

They're sending me Cookie too! (which is a parenting mag, btw.) But I won't start receiving issues until OCTOBER. what the hell?

I now officially have no magazines coming to my home (until October, that is). SAD.

I've been loving house beautiful lately... I actually wrote about that hideous apt on my blog when I first saw it. I had to take pictures of my paused TV to get some. There was not a photo to be found on the web. I swore I would cancel subscriptions to any mag that printed pics of that mess. Then the next week, they reveal that they will be in traditional home. Yikes!

The truth is, that post has been getting more hits than any other on my blog,so I bet that TH will sell tons of copies. Uchhhhh....
